As we began our journey into the world of domestic abuse and violence, it was very apparent that there was a significant lack of hands-on faith based tools for the local church. It was common for several attendees at each training seminar to approach me afterwards with a passionate desire to get involved in a class of some sort to help women. I was very dismayed to tell them that I did not know of any “user-friendly” tools for the church. It was out of that deep need that the Oasis Bible Study was formed.
Our goal is that it be facilitated by a spiritually, emotionally and relationally mature women who had a good understanding of domestic abuse. That education and ability to facilitate can be something that is easily acquired with a little time and the right resources.
The Oasis Bible Study is a 21 week faith-based curriculum with the purpose of giving hope and healing to women who are currently in or have been in domestically abusive relationships. The truth about abuse is taught along with God’s word to help these wounded women put the pieces of their life back together on a firm foundation.
The teaching/ discussion model of the Oasis Bible Study allows women to express their struggles and find the validation and compassion they so desperately need. There are many emotional issues to express and work through as a result of abuse ranging from dishonor and injustice to fear and trauma. After many years of being torn down by their abuser, God’s word is used to build them back up. It is a journey of healing from the desolate places in the desert abuse to the oasis where streams of the living water of God’s truths can be found.
