One word expresses the significance of Easter to those who have been wounded by abuse – HOPE! The death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ makes that HOPE possible as He proved to the world His power and authority as the Son of God. For anyone who believes this and chooses to be a follower of Christ, HOPE can abound even in the darkness of abuse.
HOPE is the confident expectation that:
God is walking with you through the trauma of abuse…
This I recall to my mind, therefore, I have HOPE. The Lord’s loving-kindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I have HOPE in Him.” Lamentations 3:21-24
God has a better future for you…
For I know the plans I have for you’, declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a HOPE. Jeremiah 29:11
God desires to fill you with His joy…
Now may the God of HOPE fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in HOPE by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13
These wonderful gifts are not only for the woman who is abused as she seeks healing but also for the man who is abusive. Often his abusive behavior is out of his own past pain and shame. God is the healer for both the abused and the abuser.
For anyone in the Greater Harrisburg, PA and Greater Portland, OR areas, the Oasis Bible Study offers HOPE to those women seeking healing and encouragement. Please call 503-850-8225 for class details. As one attendee of the started Oasis series in Oregon shared:
Oh Diane—– I can’t thank you enough for allowing Pam to start this (Oasis Bible Study) group. It is purely divine in my life and the timing impeccable. It is Jesus, Father God and the Holy Spirit in my life. Yesterday was pivotal—- showing up at the group was God putting his arms around me as the day was coming to an end. He was telling me, Amy, I have HOPE for you. I have more for your life. Abuse is not a part of your story for the future. It’s time to turn the page for a new chapter in your life to bless you.
May these God’s truths and that of one woman who has found that HOPE encourage you today.
